Garrett and Haack Co-Medal at U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying

Michael Haack of Bellevue, Wash. and Ben Garrett of Seattle both shot rounds of 1-over par 71 to earn co-medalist honors at the qualifier held at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Wash. for the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. on September 6-11.

The other two qualifiers from this site are Kevin Beavers of Seattle, and Marc Chandonnet of Maple Valley, Wash. who outlasted Jason Goldsworthy and Austin Beatty in a playoff for the final available spot.

Haack was selected the 2013 WSGA Men's Mid-Amateur Player of the Year, and this year has already won his second consecutive Washington State Champion of Champions title.

No players in today's field broke par on the par-70 Tom Fazio design.

The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

This year marks the 34th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Entries for the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur were open to players who have reached their 25 th birthday by September 5, 2014, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4. The championship proper consists of 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, held on September 6-7, to determine the 64 players who will then compete in single elimination match play to determine the champion. Champions of this event earn an invitation to the Masters.

The U.S. Mid-Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
