Cassie Kim and Madison Wu co-medal at U.S. Girls’ qualifying at Everett



Cassie Kim of Yakima, Wash. and Madison Wu of Dublin, Calif. both shot 1-over-par 73 to earn co-medalist honors at U.S. Girls’ Junior Sectional qualifying held today at Everett (Wash.) Golf and Country Club.

Along with Kim and Wu, the two other players to advance from this Sectional qualifier are Carissa Wu of Dublin, Calif. and Chun-Wei Wu of Chinese Taipei, who each shot 2-over 74, one shot behind Kim and Wu, and both players survived a three-person playoff to claim the two remaining spots.

These four players will now advance to compete in the 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior, to be held July 22-27 at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wisc.

The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.

Kim just graduated from Davis High School in Yakima, where she won an astounding 22 all-league golf tournaments in a row. She also won the individual 4A State High School Championship in her sophomore year. She missed the state high school championship this spring due to a scheduling conflict, as she had committed to taking a pre-medical school exam on the date of the championship. She will attending Gonzaga University in the fall, where she will compete on the women’s golf team.

Wu, who just finished the eighth grade, was a member of the national champion PGA Junior League Golf team, Team California.

Carissa Wu is the older sister of Madison and will be a senior in high school next year. She has competed on the Future Collegians World Tour for junior players. Chun-Wei Wu has competed at the IMG Junior World Championships and the Singapore Ladies Amateur Open.
